A Book You Hope Will Be Made Into A Movie

I hope you are all adjusting to life in quarantine or social distancing. It’s the perfect time to get into some reading and watching. Today’s question for the bloggers and readers of the Bookish Blog Hop is:

What book or series do you hope and pray will be turned into a movie or TV show one day?

I’d love to see the Amelia Peabody books by Elizabeth Peters turned into a TV series. This is a series of cozy historical mysteries starting with Crocodile on the Sandbank. The blurb is:

Amelia Peabody inherited two things from her father: a considerable fortune and an unbendable will. The first allowed her to indulge in her life’s passion. Without the second, the mummy’s curse would have made corpses of them all.

The main character is delightfully headstrong and intelligent. Set in the 1880’s in Egypt, Amelia is an archaeologist involved in exciting digs and of course, caught up in all sort of hijinks.

We need more strong women characters in historical settings on the screen, like some of my favourite shows, Poldark and The Crown.

SO MANY! Oh my gosh. I would love to see anything by T.L. Branson, Martin Ferguson, J. Scott Coatsworth, and Tony Moyle turned into a series as all of their books would translate really well on screen. I think that C.J. Tudor and Riley Sager’s works are also just screaming for films! I’d kill to see Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant on the big screen, I mean… killer mermaids? Ugh, I could definitely go on and on here!

There are SO SO MANY! If I had to choose just one, I would probably choose The Boys of Brayshaw High by Meagan Brandy. Or The Harris Brothers series by Amy Daws. Or The Maybe series by Colleen Hoover. Or The Belles series by Dhonielle Clayton. Okay, so I can’t choose just one. But that’s okay. Maybe one day I’ll see more of my favorites on the screen.

This is a really similar question to one that we had in the September hop and I still stick by the answer I gave then that I would love to see the Wilde Investigation by Laura Laakso series of books adapted to TV.

However I’d like to add to that two other book series’ that I’d love to see adapted for television. The first is the Red Team series by Elaine Levine which follows a band of ex special forces officers as they take on terrorists and worst in Wyoming. It’s a romantic and steamy suspense that I think would be great on Netflix.

The second book series is Sunstone by Stjepan Sejic. In a post Fifty Shades (book) and Sex  Education (awesome Netflix series) world I really think there is space for a book like Sunstone to be made into a TV series. “Sunstone follows two women as they deal with modern themes of sex, relationships, and fetishism in this erotic romantic comedy.” I think we now live in a world where stories like this can be told.

There are a lot of books that need to be turned into movies/series, but one that I can’t stop thinking about is The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang! This book is steamy, funny, romantic and of course heart-warming. It begs to be put up on the silver screen. Here are my casting choices!

Oh, man! I think my short answer would be: Just about every single book I’ve ever loved that hasn’t had an adaptation made yet!

A few years back, I made a blog post of 10 film adaptations I wanted to see made within my lifetime–and now I think I can add at least five more!

King & Maxwell– Based on the series by David Baldacci, this actually was a short-lived TV series on TNT, starring Eric McCormack and Rebecca Romijin… but, oddly enough, the network didn’t pick it up beyond the initial 13-episode run. The characters were spot-on, the story arc, while not exactly following the books, was still very well-done, and drawing from even some of his other books, I think. Goodness knows the author himself is prolific enough that any producers who decided to give it another go would have plenty of excellent source material to choose from!

The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman–Oh heck, yes! Film series or TV series, I don’t care… it’s just so DANG PRETTY that I just need to see it played out on the screen!

Curio by Evangeline Denmark–A unique concept, almost literary-based (shades of Through The Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll!) and absolutely inventive and enthralling–this book, as a film, would captivate audiences, who might even be willing to watch it more than once, as it’s one of those that gets more and more fascinating with each repetition!

The Raven Boys Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater– Because why the heck not? It’s magical, chock-full of lore, and there are some scenes in there that just beg to be displayed on the silver screen! There have even been some parts of that series that I couldn’t really follow well when I read it… So to be able to watch it happen, watch the characters experience the trippy sensations described would be marvelous!

The Hollow Earth Trilogy by John and Carole Barrowman–What a dynamic duo! Everybody’s favorite Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who teams up with his English professor sister and the two of them produce a trilogy about a couple twins who have the ability to travel in and out of paintings or drawings, whether scenery from actual classical art, or a sketch of some location they’ve drawn themselves. It’s a brilliant, perilous journey, and it would definitely be something the kids could watch and enjoy!

The Daughter of Victory Lights was a recent read  and as I read I could see it in my mind as a movie. Partly set during WWII and partly set after the war on a show boat. The boat was called Victory Lights and it had a burlesque style water show off the main deck. The book was amazing and I could just picture it on the big screen.

The first that immediately comes to mind is the J. D.Robb/Nora Roberts In Death series. I love Eve Duncan and Roarke and with 51 novels in this series, I feel confident this would be a huge success.I am also thinking of Carol Wyer’s Detective Natalie Ward series. Though only six novels have been written to-date, she has already written the 7th. It is very well-written and keeps ranking high ratings on Amazon  I also think the book I just read, Photos of You by Tammy Robinson would affect a lot of watchers if it were turned into a movie or feature film on television. It is incredibly hard hitting and tragic and is a book I will remember for years to come.

I’m still hoping they do a TV series for Percy Jackson. The films were OK but I think it would be better suited to being a TV series. I imagine it being awesome if done like the marvel shows. This needs to happen!

There are many, but the one I always think of is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I think that would be absolutely amazing visually, and the steamier scenes could translate well to HBO or a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon.
